Yes. I’m Blessed. Even In My Political Views…
As we approach another Presidential election cycle, many Christians are already being bombarded with questions about their salvation simply because of their political views. This post briefly covers my political stance.
The Bible makes it clear that…
“Blessed is the man (or woman) who does not walk in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful. But his (or her) delight is in the law of the Lord. And in His law he (or she) does meditate day and night.” ~Psalm 1:1-2
As we look at the current political landscape, may we consider a few things from this very important passage of Scripture.
WALKING in the counsel of the ungodly simply means getting one’s ideas about how to live from ungodly (unbiblical) sources. You want to be happy, even when under attack by those who oppose your personal position? Meditate in God’s law (the Bible) day and night.
Then you will base your political views and positions on what most closely aligns with God’s word. And when the naysayers who vote AGAINST A PERSON rather than for GOOD POLICIES attack you, you will be ready to give an answer… or to not give an answer… as you will let the Spirit guide you as to whether you should wield the sword of Proverbs 26:4… or Proverbs 26:5. I’ll let y’all research those verses. Moving on…
STANDING in the way of sinners is inevitable for those who do not truly endeavor to study and meditate continually on God’s word. A workman (or woman) need never be ashamed if he (or she) does so study God’s word.
And just know that “standing in the way of sinners” is not about physical proximity, because if that were the case, we couldn’t spend enough time with sinners to give them the gospel. Standing in the way of sinners is about spiritual proclivity. Wait! Let me give the definition of “proclivity…”
proclivity /noun/ an inclination or predisposition toward something especially : a strong inherent inclination toward something objectionable.
Okay. So again, “standing in the way of sinners” is not about physical proximity as much as it is about spiritual proclivity. We as fallen human beings have the proclivity to fall into sin. That is why when Jesus truly saves us, He makes us into new creatures, and gives us the Holy Spirit. And when we walk in the Spirit, we do not fulfill the proclivities of the flesh..
Such proclivities are why we are reminded that “All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work” (II Tim. 3:16-17). Stay in the word. Study the word. Understand the word. Obey the word. And you will not walk in the counsel of the ungodly. Nor will you stand in the way of sinners.
SITTING in the seat of the scornful is where one finds himself (or herself) when he (or she) as a Christian doesn’t truly give due diligence to the study of God’s word. Ungodly counsel (which of course is flooding the airwaves 24/7) creeps in and fills the vacuum created by a lack of a sound, sustained, biblical hermeneutic.
Then, without realizing it, the person will be spending more time in the flesh than in the Spirit. And if done long enough, or continually enough, he (or she) will sit and stew in a scornful attitude. They will not even realize that such a seat is continually warmed by “the accuser of the brethren”. And they will begin to scorn even the people of God who don’t agree with them and their counsel.
So what do politics have to do with this? Well, for myself as a Christian who also happens to be a voter, it has EVERYTHING to do with it. You see, rather than voting for a particular person, the Bible shows me how to vote for policies that most closely align with my biblical convictions. That way, I will never find myself, as so many do, so scorning a particular PERSON that they are willing to vote for PEOPLE who push and promote the most godless policies, just to make sure he (or she) doesn’t win..
In conclusion, I’ll just share with you WHAT (rather than whom) I vote for. You ready? Here goes….
I vote FOR the protection of innocent human life in the womb…
“Behold, children are a gift of the LORD, The fruit of the womb is His reward.” (Psa. 127:3).
I vote FOR the protection of the first great Divine Institution God ever created of MARRIAGE between one man and one woman, for life, and THE FAMILY produced by that union…
“And [Jesus] answered and said, “Have you not read that He who created [them] from the beginning MADE THEM MALE AND FEMALE, and said, ‘FOR THIS REASON A MAN SHALL LEAVE HIS FATHER AND MOTHER AND BE JOINED TO HIS WIFE, AND THE TWO SHALL BECOME ONE FLESH’? “So they are no longer two, but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let no man separate” (Matt. 19:4-6).
I vote FOR the protection of religious freedoms, PARTICULARLY FOR CHRISTIANITY, which (by the way) is the most persecuted religion on the planet. Pastors, preachers, and Christian business owners should not have to lose their churches, ministries, or businesses for staying true to their biblical faith…
“So then, while we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, and especially to those who are of the household of the faith” (Gal. 6:10).
I vote FOR the RULE OF LAW, good GOVERNMENT, and the PRESUMPTION OF INNOCENCE, without which, this country would be in utter chaos…
“Every person is to be in subjection to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those which exist are established by God. Therefore whoever resists authority has opposed the ordinance of God; and they who have opposed will receive condemnation upon themselves. For rulers are not a cause of fear for good behavior, but for evil. Do you want to have no fear of authority? Do what is good and you will have praise from the same; for it is a minister of God to you for good. But if you do what is evil, be afraid; for it does not bear the sword for nothing; for it is a minister of God, an avenger who brings wrath on the one who practices evil. Therefore it is necessary to be in subjection, not only because of wrath, but also for conscience’ sake. For because of this you also pay taxes, for [rulers] are servants of God, devoting themselves to this very thing. Render to all what is due them: tax to whom tax [is due;] custom to whom custom; fear to whom fear; honor to whom honor” (Rom. 13:1-7).
AND…
“Submit yourselves for the Lord’s sake to every human institution, whether to a king as the one in authority, or to governors as sent by him for the punishment of evildoers and the praise of those who do right. For such is the will of God that by doing right you may silence the ignorance of foolish men. [Act] as free men, and do not use your freedom as a covering for evil, but [use it] as bondslaves of God. Honor all people, love the brotherhood, fear God, honor the king” (I Pet. 2:13-17).
By the above convictions, I PRAY FOR leaders on the left, on the right, and in the middle; that they will come to a saving knowledge of the truth in Jesus Christ, because He is the only true hope of people ever doing government in any kind of way that pleases God…
“First of all, then, I urge that entreaties [and] prayers, petitions [and] thanksgivings, be made on behalf of all men, for kings and all who are in authority, so that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity. This is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth” (I Tim. 2:1-4).
Therefore, I vote against ABORTION, against the LGBTQ AGENDA and THE DESTRUCTION OF THE FAMILY, against RELIGIOUS (and primarily CHRISTIAN) PERSECUTION, and against LAWLESSNESS and GOVERNMENT CORRUPTION. And why? Because these, unlike just about any other sins one can quibble, cavil, carp, or bicker over, have historically been the final failures of cities and nations just prior to God condemning and destroying them.
Now you have in writing, why I vote the way I do. And while there definitely are other issues I’m also concerned about that I believe these convictions help serve, you at least now have in writing why I can unashamedly vote for any Republican, Democrat, or Independent whose policies most closely align with these (MY) BIBLICAL CONVICTIONS.
I pray that if you name the name of Christ, you will be able to do the same for what (OR WHOM) you vote for (OR AGAINST). I’d say a real Psalm 1:1-2 type of relationship with God’s word is a GREAT place to start!
God bless, beloved!
