How To Stay C.O.N.F.I.D.E.N.T. as a Christian in a Chaotic World
A consistently attacked target of the world, the flesh, and the Devil is the Christian’s confidence, because it offers us great reward. This post is a concise “CONFIDENT” acrostic that can help us remain faithful to God.
A. W. Pink said, “But why should we not place implicit confidence in God and rely upon His word of promise? Is anything too hard for the Lord? Has His word of promise ever failed? Then let us not entertain any unbelieving suspicions of His future care of us. Heaven and earth shall pass away, but not so His promises.”
There is no doubt that the world is getting morally and spiritually worse almost daily. Along with all of the tragic things taking place, there also remains the constant problem of sin in us and others around us. And spiritual warfare literally never ceases.
But with all that true believers are given and guaranteed by the blood of Jesus, there truly is no reason for us to ever worry about this world, the flesh, or the Devil. If we learn to have a resolute trust in God, we will be able to not only say it, but mean it when we say that I can do all things through Christ who is my strength.
So, just as Hebrews 10:35 says, “do not cast away your confidence, which has great reward,” You need to do all you can to keep your confidence in GOD! And you can do so by being C.O.N.F.I.D.E.N.T. in…
the CHRIST of Scripture
— John 14:6 —
“Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.”
Jesus is the only way to a relationship with God. He said so. Either He lied, or all other religions are lies. Be confident that Christ Jesus never lies!
the ONENESS you have with Him
— Colossians 2:13 —
“And you, being dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He has made alive together with Him, having forgiven you all trespasses,”
If you have truly believed in Jesus Christ, then God considers you as having died with Christ on His cross, and He has raised you up in total forgiveness. Be confident of this fact.
the NEWNESS of life He gives you
— Romans 6:4 —
“Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.”
Walking in newness of life means ongoing study of and obedience to the Bible, praying continually, and faithfully serving God in fellowship with other true Believers in Christ, in fulfillment of Matthew 22:37-39 and Matthew 28:18-20 (the Great Commandment and the Great Commission).
the FAITH once-for-all given to the saints
— Jude 1:3 —
“Beloved, while I was very diligent to write to you concerning our common salvation, I found it necessary to write to you exhorting you to contend earnestly for the faith which was once for all delivered to the saints.”
There is no new faith. The same faith that was given to the disciples of Jesus 2,000 years ago is the same faith. That is why it says it was “once for all” delivered. That means once for all time! The Bible teaches us all we need to know about THE FAITH.
the IMMUTABILITY of GOD
— Hebrews 13:8 —
“Jesus Christ [is] the same yesterday, today, and forever.”
Immutability means “changelessness”. God never changes. Another good verse to remember is Malachi 3:6, which says “For I [am] the LORD, I do not change…” Everyone and everything is subject to change. But you can be confident that God will always be everything the Bible says He is.
the DELIVERANCE of GOD
— Colossians 1:13 —
“He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed [us] into the kingdom of the Son of His love,”
If you have truly trusted in Jesus Christ, you have been delivered from Satan’s control and made into an eternal family member of God who stands in the righteousness of His beloved Son, Jesus. This deliverance is also from “the wrath to come” that 1 Thessalonians 1:10 talks about.
the ETERNALITY of His salvation
— John 10:27-30 —
“My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me. “And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand. “My Father, who has given [them] to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch [them] out of My Father’s hand. “I and [My] Father are one.”
Jesus stakes His own life on the promise of eternal life He gives to His sheep. And God the Father is in perfect agreement with His Son. If you truly trust in Jesus, He gives that promise to you. Be confident in it, and you’ll live for GOD like His Son Jesus did.
the NEARNESS of His presence
— Hebrews 13:5-6 —
“[Let your] conduct [be] without covetousness; [be] content with such things as you have. For He Himself has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” So we may boldly say: “The LORD [is] my helper; I will not fear. What can man do to me?”
When God says He will never LEAVE you, that means no matter how it might feel or seem sometimes, He will always be with His true children in Christ. When He says He will never FORSAKE you, that means that He will always supply your needs and, like Romans 8:28 says, He will cause all things to work together for good to you if you love Him and are called. Live life according to His purpose, and you can be confident that He will work everything out for His glory, and your good.
the TRUTH that is His holy word
— Psalm 119:160 —
“The entirety of Your word [is] truth, And every one of Your righteous judgments [endures] forever.”
From the book of Genesis, all the way through, to the book of Revelation, God’s entire word is pure truth! And His word will never change or pass away. Jesus declared that heaven and earth will one day pass away, but His word will never pass away. You can believe in it, and be totally confident that it helps you to wisely and faithfully live out this life to the glory of God. And it prepares you for unfathomable blessings forevermore!
So as Hebrews 10:32-39 reminds us…
But remember the former days, when, after being enlightened, you endured a great conflict of sufferings, partly by being made a public spectacle through reproaches and tribulations, and partly by becoming sharers with those who were so treated. For you showed sympathy to the prisoners and accepted joyfully the seizure of your property, knowing that you have for yourselves a better possession and a lasting one. Therefore, do not throw away your confidence, which has a great reward. For you have need of endurance, so that when you have done the will of God, you may receive what was promised. FOR YET IN A VERY LITTLE WHILE, HE WHO IS COMING WILL COME, AND WILL NOT DELAY. BUT MY RIGHTEOUS ONE SHALL LIVE BY FAITH; AND IF HE SHRINKS BACK, MY SOUL HAS NO PLEASURE IN HIM. But we are not of those who shrink back to destruction, but of those who have faith to the preserving of the soul.
In short, RECALL your conversion (vv. 10:32-34). RETAIN your confidence (v. 35). REMAIN in your calling (vv. 36-38). And you will REALIZE your chosenness (v. 39). Because, as Jesus said in Matthew 20:16, “many are called, but few are chosen”. So, as 2 Peter 1:10 says, “Therefore, brethren, be even more diligent to make your call and election sure, for if you do these things you will never stumble”.
As a final thought, Hebrews 10:35 is truly worth repeating… “Therefore do not cast away your confidence, which has great reward.”
