Racism and a Sinful Humanity’s Egoism in Light of a Holy God’s Altruism
Satan knows racism and its murderous results is one of the greatest deceptions, because it is a part of the lie that originates with him—the father of lies. This post offers perspectives every Christian should consider.
The great problem of every human being regardless of color is that we are prone to think of ourselves much more highly than we ought to. And how that plays out in a fallen sinful world produces all the atrocities of the world. Rapists think of themselves more highly than they do of those whose bodies they sexually violate. Robbers think of themselves more highly than they do of those whose property they steal. Likewise, racists think of themselves more highly than they do of those who are not their skin color. You can put any perpetrator of any sinful act on this list (liars, terrorists, pedophiles, embezzlers, human traffickers, murderers, drug dealers, and the list goes on).
.
And why is it that all who practice such wickedness think of themselves more highly than they ought to? It is because they are sinners. But not only is sin in them, but sin is also in every single one of their victims, because we are all sinners with the same desperate need of salvation in Christ. Until we come to the saving knowledge of the truth in Christ, we continue to think of ourselves more highly than we ought to when the fact is that we all deserve hell.
.
If we continue to look at ourselves as those whose plight and pain will never be understood by people of a different skin color, then we continue to leave room for Satan to tempt us to sin, because all he has to do is show us another incident that smacks of racism, and we are once again triggered.
.
In Christ we are no longer victims, but victors. We submit racism and every other thing that exalts itself so sinfully to the obedience and faith of Christ. And we must continually and prayerfully do so or else risk being deceived and tempted by Satan. The Devil knows that the sin of racism will never end until Christ returns. Therefore he will continue to use people to create George Floyd scenarios in order to lead people deeper into sin.
.
Satan knows that racism and its murderous results is one of the greatest deceptions, because it is a part of the lie that originates with him—the father of lies. In John 8:44, Jesus said…
[The Devil] was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it.”
We can trace every evil way humans fail to properly see and esteem each other back to the moment Adam and Eve tasted the forbidden fruit. They instantly couldn’t bare to look at each other. They began to try to hide from God. And they began to find fault with each other while also ignoring their own faults. That is where racism and murder and every other wicked sin of mankind began.
.
And until Christ returns bringing forth new heavens and a new earth where only the righteous dwell, all the by-products of sin including racism and murder will continue to exist. But a true, biblical understanding of sin and salvation through genuine faith in Christ is the remedy that removes from each believing heart the propensity each inherently has to be racist.
.
When by true faith in Christ, we realize that all of us without exception deserve hell because all have sinned and have fallen short of the glory of God, and when we realize that none of us will ever be able to comprehend the pain and agony the eternal Son of God endured so that sinners could be freed from sin and reconciled to a Holy God, then we can understand what Psalm 103:10 means when it says…
[God] has not dealt with us according to our sins, nor punished us according to our iniquities.”
That verse essentially says that until we reach eternity, none of us will ever have suffered as much as we all (of every skin color) truly deserved. Yet those who leave this life without repenting and truly believing in Christ will experience that most deserved punishment in hell’s torment for all eternity.
.
So what must we do? We must repent of our sin before the LORD, and believe in Christ so that our hearts can be totally healed. Christ in the heart is the only true remedy for racism and for all other sins. Coming to God in the realization of how much we desperately need Him to have mercy on our own sinful souls, we can receive salvation by His all-sufficient grace. And in receiving that great grace and mercy, we can walk in it and extend it even to our worst enemies.
.
Please consider that just as Blacks say that White people will never truly understand our pain as a people, none of us will ever understand Christ’s pain as the second person of the Triune Godhead, perfectly sinless in every way, yet being made sin for us that we might become the righteousness of God through Him (2 Corinthians 5:21). But our inability to truly understand Christ’s pain doesn’t prevent him from looking beyond our faults and seeing to our needs. And neither does His awareness of the fact that even people He saves will sin again cause Him to cast them out.
.
I will never truly be able to understand the grief that I cause the Holy Spirit when I sin. Yet He seals and keeps me until the day Christ returns for me. Therefore I don’t hold too tightly to this fallen sinful world. It will surely pass away with all of its evil lusts. But whoever does the will of God will live forever (1 John 2:15-17).
.
Therefore I try to remind Christians that if you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth. If you are born-again, you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ who is our life appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory” (Colossians 3:1-4).
.
Be faithful and stay encouraged, saints.
